Girls Basketball Battles Back in Loss to Lutheran West

The West Geauga Girls Basketball team dropped a 69-58 decision to visiting Lutheran West on Tuesday night. The Long Horns offense started the game strong to build a 17-8 lead after one quarter. West G battled back in the second quarter and cut the deficit to single digits before heading into the half down 31-20. Lutheran West opened the game up in the third quarter by outscoring the Wolverines 23-10 and extended the lead to as many as 29. West Geauga answered back in the fourth quarter with a run of its own as they put up a season-high 28 points in the final frame while holding Lutheran West to 15 points. West Geauga shot 34 percent (20-of-54) from the field on the night while Lutheran West shot an efficient 48 percent. The Wolverines were 1-of-7 from the three-point line while limiting the Long Horns to 4-of-20 shooting from deep. West Geauga was 17-of-29 from the free throw line. The Wolverines were paced by junior Faelynn Beckrest who finished with 28 points while Rachel Mason added 11 and Aubrey Sens chipped in seven. West Geauga will host Hawken on Friday night.
